Prologue

He was standing there rethinking his decision as sweat was slowly rolling down his back.

He stared at the man in front of him known around the galaxy to trillions upon trillions of people from billions of worlds as the “King Of The Underground”.

The King Of The Underground Blane Stark was a gigantic man in his 40’s who towered over 6’7″ in height with long silver hair. Blane was famous for his short temper which would go straight to violence over the smallest grievance. Every single person who stood before this man would cower down and not dare stare him in the eye, a man who would kill men, women, & children without hesitation or remorse.

At this point Shou Chenge was beating himself for requesting this meeting. He had to pull so many strings and used up every favor he had ever gotten in a lifetime. He knew what kind of man The King was but he was blinded by his greed and convinced himself that he would be a King himself after today. To think of how excited he was before walking into this room.

Blane stared Shou in the eye as he told him “your lying”

“I…I’mmm…not lying….yoouur grace. I reallll..lly di…d find one th…thattt…t no one know’s about.”

Shou was able to somehow get the words out of his mouth even though every word felt like an entire world weighing down on him.

“It’s impossible!” Blane yelled as he glared down at Shou who was shivering.

“No one has ever heard of it. I checked every kind of record that exist. Historical records, ancient records, and even records that only recorded rumors. Not a single mention of it being a possibility. Not a  single one.”

With every word that came out of his mouth Blane got more and more angry. He wasn’t even attempting to hide the blood lust in his eyes.

Shou felt the cold hand of death creeping up his back and reaching for his neck. If he didn’t do something immediately he would be dead in seconds. He reached deep down in the bottom of his soul to find every bit of courage and strength he could muster.

“I can prove it your grace.” He was begging at this point as his eyes were showing signs of crying from fear. His entire body was numb and he couldn’t feel a thing. The upper half of his body was ice cold while the lower half was warm and wet for some unknown reason.

“Your grace I was hired to steal a certain item from a certain family” Shou started his story and prayed in the name of Stala that Blane would believe him.

“I spent weeks learning the location of the item, the guards habits, when they would eat, drink and go to the bathroom. I watched every detail and recorded no matter how insignificant or minute it seemed. The plan was perfect, the execution was perfect, it was a perfect plan.”

The pride could be seen in Shou’s eyes as he spoke, it was his greatest achievement. A slow smile was appearing on his face as he bragged to the King…when would he ever get a chance to brag like this again.

Blane’s patience was almost gone and he was ready to rip the throat out of this pathetic little man who lied and wasted his time. The more he heard him brag about some little heist the more he wanted his blood to run.

“I can’t believe I screwed up the escape, it was all so perfect.” After listening to Blane brag shamelessly to here him talk about his mistake caught Blane off guard. Why would someone who was obviously overly proud admit failure?

“They had set up an extra system that wasn’t supposed to be there. I was lucky to get away at all. I managed to make it to my ship and started traveling as fast as it would go but no matter what I tried they were right behind me.”

Shou may not be the greatest criminal who ever lived but he was still considered one of the better ones at least in this quadrant. He was hired to steal from that family so he had to be good. He could see that Blane’s blood lust was starting to wane, now he just had to have him look at the proof.

“If I kept running like that then I was never going to escape. So I decided to randomly jump through space, not even I would know where I was going to end up. I deleted the star system records and randomly jumped through space”.

Blane couldn’t hide the shock on his face. His eyes opened wide and Shou was staring into them and all he saw was the pit of hell. His eyes reflected the screams and massacres of millions.

“You deleted the star records, why would you do that?”

“As long as the star records are there the system will not truly be random. It occurred to me years ago that if I ever found myself in a situation with no hope I could delete the star system and it would be a truly random jump as there was no data to compare the jump to.”

“Brilliant!” Not that Blane would ever want to jump without star records but if you found yourself in a situation you couldn’t escape from then it just might be the miracle that you needed. It could also result in instant death as you jump into a blackhole, sun or some other disaster but sometimes that risk is worth it.

Blane couldn’t hide the smile on his face as he told Shou,

“Even if you lied to me just sharing that idea with me is worth sparing your life”.

Shou’s face relaxed hearing Blane give him a pardon. His life was spared although it meant sharing something that he considered one of his secret life saving aces it was worth it.

“After jumping I loaded the star records back into the system and tried to figure out where I was. At first I thought that the system was broken because it kept coming up unknown. I worked on the system for two days before I realized I had somehow ended up somewhere not in the current star records”.

Blane tilted his head slightly to the right and started rubbing his hands together. Blane would do this when he was thinking of all of the money he was going to make.

“Since I was outside of the star records I decided to add it to my star record. I started a scan and found a planet with living beings on it. I moved my ship up close to one million Li and scanned the planet. The planet was pathetically small with almost no resources. There were only a few billion people on the planet and they were no more than barbarians.”

The disdain in Shou’s voice let Blane know that the planet itself held no value. Besides if there was anything of value then with Shou’s ship alone assuming that the planet was as barbaric as he described he could have taken it all.

“I spent a week scanning the planet and learning the languages through the broadcast and tapping into their systems. Even though it was such a small planet it was broken up into hundreds of countries with hundreds of languages. The people were weak and only lived for less than one ehun (100 years). I was just about to leave”.

He paused as he realized, this was the moment. His entire life lead up to this. If he could get Blane to believe him he would be rich. He could have anything he wanted. He would be a King!

“As I was scanning an unbelievable thing happened. The star alarm sounded and on the display I saw it. On this little weak planet that wasn’t on any star record….There was an Emperor Candidate.”
