Nil was furiously hitting the pole with all his might, yet he didn’t seem tired what so ever. Sure there were times where he got careless, and the sword would shake his hands, but besides that, he kept his breath under control.
“Snap”
Not even a second passed when Boris spoke before the sword Nil was using snapped, leaving it useless. The top half flew into the air landing a foot away from Nil’s position. He smiled, looking toward the middle part of the pole as wood chips spiked from the dents the wooden sword caused.
“You dimwitted of a person. I could have sold that before you broke it in half. Do you think those wooded swords are just for rage release? Six years old and is already causing me a headache.” The mood of accomplishment quickly went away from Nil. However, he couldn’t help but hide a little smirk because now, at least, he doesn’t need to swing that annoying sword. As far as Nil can remember, it’s been with him since his earliest memories.
Nil always thought that even though Boris is hard on him, it’s out of goodwill. Thinking about that even brought more happiness to him.
The smirk soon changed when looking behind him, seeing Boris with a much larger wooden sword, maybe even twice the size of Nil. If someone were to look at Nil, they could easily see the sadness and heartbreaking look, as if a pet of his just passed away.
He then looked toward Advis and saw she was in a cold sweat.
‘I guess it is hot today. Maybe when Advis sits in the same spot for a while, she’s actually collecting the sunlight?’ Nil really couldn’t see why she would be sweating besides that. She has stayed in the same spot for not even the whole day but instead found humor over a small joke he made.
“Nil, come over here tell me how the new sword feels.” Boris’s voice was rather a bit deep while it matched his figure perfectly. He had broad shoulders, with biceps larger than Nils’s head. Every muscle is defined enough to cut cheese if it were to run across them. His face had high cheekbones giving him a very masculine look. His eyes were brown, while his black hair was short and spiky.
Nil walked over to Boris and held the new sword out by one hand that seemed almost to overlap the handle. Grabbing the sword, its weight already made Nils’s arms scream in pain as if they would rip apart any moment.
Nils’s small hands seemed pitiful compared to the sword’s handle, not even covering half the room of the handle. But, heck, it was even a miracle that a six-year-old could even hold that sword, let allow train with it.
‘What’s this thing made of?’ Looking at the sword closely now, Nil was shocked.
Typically speaking, swords are sharp and smooth. Even wooden swords would be smooth before hitting them against stuff and cheeping it away. This sword, however, looked like it was carved straight out of a tree. Splitters covered every edge of the sword but the handle. Polished leather was wrapped around the handle, perfect for Nils’ small hands. Seeming as if a novice who knows nothing about swords started to hit a tree and so happened to make a shape of a sword out of it. The only thing alluring about the sword was its crimson redwood.
Nil could barely raise his tiny arms, let alone swing it, and the size of it was huge for Nil. Compared to his first sword, it could almost be laughable about the vast difference between the two.
“Hahaha, what your holding is called Burdin Wood, that is found only deep within the ground in the harshest conditions of heat and pressure. Its know for being one of the heaviest woods to be found. The sect master sure had to pull a couple of strings to find you that. Hahaha,” Boris was a robust man with sharp eyebrows and scars covering him from head to toe. However, his eyes are always sweet and unbefitting of his figure, especially the vulgar words that come out of his mouth.
“Starting today, you are to swing that sword from the moment you have to go see the other instructors.” Boris evil smiled went from one ear to the other as if he just did the funniest thing. However, there still was some annoyance in it while he began to collect the other half of the wooden sword.
‘Did destroying the sword make Boris crazy enough to want to kill me?’ Nil’s face only looked at the sword, horrified of the idea.
Nil looked at the sword, then at Boris, to then again look at his sword with his mouth slowly getting wider each time. “Bor…”
“Will get to work, start getting familiar with your new friend.” Boris always referred to the weapon as a friend. Nil couldn’t understand why an object would be a friend?
Considering the sword he just broke, he felt proud to see it finally break. He had that weapon since he could remember. Yet not one ounce of sadness followed when it went away.
Nil grabbed the sword and gritted his teeth. He tightened his muscles and lifted the sword with all his might. Raising the sword above his shoulder, he then put his right foot down behind him a bit and swung down with all his might against the pole. Coming in contact with the pole immediately made his hands ring from the energy transferring the vibration from one place to another. He couldn’t help but let the sword slip from his hands flying behind him.
It looked exactly like a 6-year-old kid playing with a sword when he shouldn’t be and saw the repercussions after it. If anyone were to see Nil with that sword, they would think it’s too dangerous for him even to hold it.
“Seeing how it’s almost the afternoon, ready yourselves to leave to the other instructor. In the meantime, I’m going to get the ingredients for lunch. Keep up the good work. Oh, and every time you let go of that sword, 20 push-ups. Good luck!” Boris smiled at both Nil and Advis walking off into the forest.
Nil grabbed the sword while he kept attacking the pole repetitively. However, each attack took more than 10 minutes as Nil would run out of breath and strength between each swing. On the other hand, Advis stayed on the ground with her eyes closed, showing only a slight sweat.
…..
A half-hour has now passed, and Nils’ arms are now all swollen and tired of the exhaustion of hitting the pole with the crimson red wooden sword. Using the crimson red wooden sword, the visual proof of the damage is apparent.
Typically speaking, when Nil hit the pole with his old sword, it would chip tiny pieces off or make a slight indent into the pole. Yet with the crimson wooden sword, every attack would send chunks of wood chips everywhere. In just a day that would normally take him months to achieve, the pole has been reformed into an art piece from the repetitive attacks. All the dents, chunks, and cuts into this pole could be easily looked at as art for the weird transformation the pole has gone through.
Advis would open her eyes now and then, watching Nil attack the wooden pole. She loved to watch her brother strike the pole as she witnessed his hard work and swordsmanship. She has done a lot of practice within her own swordsmanship, but most of the time, she is usually on the ground meditating as Boris only wanted her to do that.
